首先一大区别是前者不仅可以做形容词，还是动词时态和动名词；后者只是形容词。

都是作为形容词时，我认为有以下区别。
supporting 一般表示在功能上起支撑作用，比如supporting beam承重梁supporting cast配角们。
supportive 通常表示在精神上/情绪上支持，比如supportive family表示支持的家人们。
